Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 August 2026

This policy explains what happens to your information when you use PetPal (the "App"), an iPhone app for cat and dog owners published by Evgenii Rozanov ("we", "us").

The short version: PetPal has no accounts and no server of its own. Everything you put into the App — your pet's profile, diary entries, photos, sound recordings, weights and reports — is stored on your iPhone and is not uploaded to us. We do not sell, rent or share your data, and we do not run ads or third-party trackers.

1. Information stored on your device

The App creates and keeps the following on your iPhone, inside the App's private storage:

  • Pet profile — name, species, breed, sex, date of birth, weight goal, personality answers and the profile photo you choose.
  • Diary entries — your notes, mood selections, activity tags and any photos you attach.
  • Sound recordings — the meow or bark you record for the translator, and the result of the analysis.
  • Photo check images — the photos you take or pick for the weekly check, and the comparison result.
  • Weight entries and the resulting charts.
  • App settings and progress — language, reminder preferences, streaks, care ring and bond level.

This information is processed on your device. The mood analysis, the photo comparison and the weekly report are all computed locally on your iPhone using Apple's on-device frameworks. None of it is transmitted to us, and we have no way to read it.

2. Permissions the App asks for

  • Microphone — only while you are actively recording your pet in the translator, so the sound can be analysed. The App does not listen in the background.
  • Camera — to take photos of your pet for the diary and the photo check.
  • Photo Library — to pick existing photos of your pet. The App reads only the images you select.
  • Notifications — optional local reminders (a weigh-in, a daily check-in). These are scheduled by your iPhone; no reminder is sent from a server.

You can grant or revoke any of these at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security, or in the App's own entry in iOS Settings. Declining a permission only disables the feature that needs it.

3. Information we do not collect

  • No account, email address, phone number or password — the App has no sign-up.
  • No advertising identifiers, no ad networks, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
  • No location data.
  • No contacts, calendars, health data or files outside the App.
  • No payment card details — see section 5.

4. Third parties

Apple

The App is distributed through the App Store and uses Apple's StoreKit for subscriptions. Apple independently collects information related to your download, purchases and — if you have enabled it in iOS Settings — anonymised crash and usage statistics shared with developers in aggregate form. That processing is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not by this one.

Optional cloud AI

The App is designed so that all analysis runs on your device. A cloud AI engine exists in the codebase for development purposes and is not available in the version published on the App Store — the option to enable it is not shown, and no pet data is sent to any AI provider. If a future release ever offers cloud processing, it will be opt-in, clearly labelled inside the App, and this policy will be updated before it ships.

5. Purchases and subscriptions

PetPal offers an optional Premium subscription. Payment is handled entirely by Apple through your App Store account. We never see or store your card number, billing address or Apple ID. The App only receives from Apple whether an active subscription exists, and that status is kept on your device.

6. How long data is kept, and how to delete it

Your data stays on your iPhone for as long as you keep the App installed. You are in control:

  • Delete an individual diary entry, photo, recording or weight entry inside the App.
  • Delete a pet profile to remove everything attached to it.
  • Delete the App from your iPhone to remove all of its data at once.

Because we never receive a copy, there is nothing for us to delete on our side. If you have enabled iCloud device backups, a copy of the App's data may be included in your encrypted Apple backup, under your control and Apple's terms.

7. Security

The App's data is held inside its sandboxed container, protected by iOS file-level encryption and your device passcode or biometrics. No system is perfectly secure, but because nothing is transmitted to a server of ours, there is no central store of your pet's data to breach.

8. Children

PetPal is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The App has no account system, no messaging and no user-to-user features.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA or similar laws — to access, correct, export or delete your personal data. Since your data never leaves your device, you exercise all of these directly in the App, without needing to contact us. If you still have a question about your data, write to [email protected] and we will answer.

10. Not medical advice

The photo check, the mood readings and the weekly report are wellbeing features intended to help you observe your pet. They are not a veterinary diagnosis and must not be used as a substitute for professional veterinary care. See the Terms of Service for the full statement.

11. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Material changes affecting how your data is handled will also be announced inside the App before they take effect.
